Please adhere to these specifications. Deviation from the following instructions may delay your order and/or incur additional art charges.
General Instructions for ``Camera-Ready Artwork To Size"
Copy must be pasted up in position on a board with accurate crop marks (indicating exact finished size) and center marks (these are a necessity in order to step up a finished negative.) Please prepare all artwork to size. Artwork should be color separated.
All copy must be positioned 1/8" in from all cut edges. If borders are required, border must be 1/8" from cut edge. Borders that bleed must bleed at least 1/8" wide.
Typeset copy must be of good density with no pinholes. It is recommended that any type submitted for reproduction be of a medium weight because type that is too bold will not print clearly.
Typeset copy which is printed in reverse must be bold (not serif or script) but not smaller than 6 pt. type.
Die-cut or regular items with bleed must bleed 1/8" over the cut edges.
Logos - Reproducible stats can be obtained from printers who print customer's stationery. Logos with screens are not recommended as they shoot solid. Screens should be indicated on a tissue overlay: we will lay the screens in. Please enclose a sample of what the screens should look like.
Logos in reverse - we do not recommend any logos with fine lines or fine type to be printed in reverse as they will fill in when printed.
Mechanicals must be pasted up square - when copy is placed on a drafting table and the horizontal crops are lined up with the straight edge, the vertical crops must line up to the triangle when it is placed against the straight-edge.
The camera ready art must be crisp, clean and clear.
Check with the factory regarding ad copy space on desired products.
Maximum 65 line screens for silk screen printing, 133 line screen for offset printing.
Film Requirements for ``Color Separated Film Negatives"
First generation, color separated, film negatives, emulsion down, right reading required.
PMS color and card name should be noted on each negative.
All knock-outs must include a minimum .005" trap (quarter point to a half point).
Include crop-marks, center and targets for each color of the card. Keep these marks a minimum of 1/4" away from the artwork.
Film negatives must have a minimum of one inch of blank film around the outer edge of all artwork.
Keep all non-bleeding copy, signature panels, and variable text a minimum of 3/32" from the edge of the card.
All bleed copy must exceed the card edge by at least 1/8". Keep crop marks out of the 1/8" extension.
Standard credit card size is 2 1/8" x 3 3/8" with 1/8" round corners. DO NOT round the corners of the artwork. Our staff will adjust the artwork in pre-press.
Plan areas for variable text such as embossing at 8 characters per inch.
Positive printing copy should be no smaller than 5 point to insure readability. Reverse print should be no smaller than 6 point to insure good readability and no character closings. Type styles with serifs are not recommended in reverse printing as they tend to close up or fill in.
On 4 color process, back off negatives 10% to allow for dot gain in printing on plastic.
133 line screen recommended for 4 color process printing.
Provide match print chromalin proof for color match on 4 color process.
